HOW MANY LEFT?

How many classic cars are still in existence, in one state or another? Well it must be a minefield because we have so many in back gardens, fields, garages and of course barns, plus the ones on the road and those that the DVLA are aware of as SORN (statutory off road notification)

We know for instance that approximately 524,000 MGB, MGC MGB GT and V8 models were produced from 1962 until final production in 1981, but how many are on the roads today?

According to the Department of Transport there are over 20,000 MGB,s and 1,000 MGC,s on the road today, of course this fluctuates seasonally as many are SORN during the winter months, but how many are lying around in places mentioned above, of course many lie waiting to be used as spares in back street garages, where would we be if these were not available at reasonable costs, we could always use cheap Chinese imports of course but, are they as good and as reliable?

Below are charts showing the trend of how many MG cars are on the road today compared to eleven years ago.
